Château Beaurivage, Minervois 2020
Minervois is one of the best loved - and biggest - appellations of the Languedoc, and in the search for a really good Minervois at our mammoth Languedoc tasting last summer, it was this sumptuous red blend from Château Beaurivage we loved best. A Minervois that is a cut above: bright, luscious red berry notes, appealing warmth and hints of spice. It’s glowing with bold, expressive bramble fruit, and luscious indeed. It’s also become something of a house red for the FromVineyardsDirect team.
The blend is mostly from 20-year-old-plus syrah vines, with grenache and carignan adding a hint of spice making this an extremely generous, full-bodied red that hugely defies its price tag. For me, it's the balance that really elevates a wine to greatness, and the Beaurivage is exactly that: lusciously sweet, dark cherry and plum fruit comes through straight away, staying smooth and ripe, right through to a wonderfully long finish. Velvety soft, there are simply no edges to this wine as it effortlessly delivers layer after layer of flavour.
