Nyetimber Classic Cuvée, West Sussex/Hampshire (magnum)
This is delightful with almond, pastry, backed apple and citrus flavours - a creamy premium fizz which shows that Nyetimber are serious about their ambition to make the finest sparkling wine (including Champagne) in the world.
Head Winemaker Cherie Spriggs was awarded the accolade of Sparkling Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine Challenge 2018, becoming the first winemaker from outside Champagne to win this award.
No expense is spared at the estate, under the Sussex downs, which produces wines of such quality that they leave many 'Grande Marque' champagnes in their shadows, repeatedly coming out on top in blind tastings. Nyetimber is generally thought to be the leading success of the UK sparkling wine scene and we would recommend taking full advantage - it is perfect now and will drink beautifully for many years.
What do the critics say?
"We have all read for a while now about the chalkstone seam that reaches from Champagne to Kent, Sussex & beyond, with its virtually identical mineral content. Eric van Heerema has spent a very large fortune perfecting this sparkling wine below the Sussex downs and the result is quite remarkable."

"The NV Classic Cuvée is a blend of 50-60% Chardonnay, 30-40% Pinot Noir and 10-20% Pinot Meunier. This particular Cuvée is based on the 2013 vintage, augmented by contributions from 2010 and 2011, also 20% of the 2009 vintage. It spent three years on the lees. It has a generous bouquet with red apple, fresh pear and a touch of Mirabelle. I appreciate the vigor and intensity here. The palate displays fine delineation with hints of strawberry and cherry, nicely weighted in the mouth with a brisk and tensile finish. The Classic Cuvée has long given pleasure and it continues to do so."
90/100 Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 2017
"This is a class act. Fresh white breadcrumb and crisp, ripe red apple combine to create an appetizing nose. The lively fizz on the palate makes the tart but ripe red-apple notions stand out, painted against a mellow, yeasty backdrop and resonant, bready depth. This wine is crisp and rich in equal measure, bold and full flavored, yet elegant and smooth. Outstanding freshness, brightness and purity become apparent on the long finish."
