Château Hyot, Castillon 2020
Chàteau Hyot is a 'house' claret with a style, character and sheer drinkability we very rarely find at this level. It comes from Castillon - just to the east of St-Emilion, and hails from the excellent 2020 vintage.
I genuinely can't recommend this highly enough - it's 70% merlot, with 20% cabernet franc and 10% cabernet sauvignon, and has absolutely bags of flavour. Deep ruby in colour with an expressive aroma of cassis, blackberry and blueberry, with a subtle toasty note. Very well balanced on the palate with striking, luscious ripe black fruit at first. With a few swirls of the glass, more flavours emerge - a touch of cedar and spice perhaps with a pleasing biscuity texture and fine tannic structure.
Everything a claret-lover looks for here in spades, enhanced by the warmth and generosity of the 2020 vintage - bringing bright, almost sweet character to the fruit. Finishes with a lush, perfumed freshness.

Chateau Hyot is amazing value ,lovely claret as described above you would struggle to find much better at double the price the cab franc brings a nice freshness. well done V.D
