A year on, still showing glorious, flourishing maturity – it continues to offer a level of sensual drinking pleasure and value for money that we as specialist importers have rarely seen.
Comparable Northern Rhône reds of similar character would command twice the price, yet when by the deft winemaking hands at Sumaridge especially, it’s another example of South Africa delivering some of the best fine-wine value on the UK market.
‘Epitome’ 2012 is indisputably this. From Walker Bay’s Hemel-en-Aarde Valley sub-region comes cool-climate Syrah (60%) and Pinotage (40%) in a blend of remarkable poise and complexity, which, after over a decade of graceful ageing, now offers gorgeous layers of ripe blackcurrant, mulberry, pepper, tobacco leaf, spice, and smoky oak, all carried on a long, elegant finish. And with the scents and flavours of the season now in the air, here is autumnal drinking at its most rewarding.

Perfectly good wine with dark chocolate and berry overtones, but little complexity
as a consumer who is very partial to southern hemisphere shiraz with some bottle age,i found it with its combination of pinotage very smooth without having to wait cellar time.whilst a full "winter weight" i look forward to it for barbecues
A truly excellent wine at any price level; it exudes warm fruit with a subtlety unusual in New World red wines, and it has a good finish too. I think it is as suited to a summer barbecue as it is as a winter warmer. Snap it up!
