Hochar Pere et Fils Rouge, Chateau Musar, Bekaa Valley 2018
The new 2018 vintage has just arrived, please find below information about the previous vintage.
I have just tasted Hochar 17, a fantastic red from Chateau Musar, named in honour of the late and great Serge Hochar whom I was fortunate enough to know. The wine is outstanding for its modest price and too good in my opinion to be viewed as a 'second wine' but stands on its own.
It is drinking really well already with elegant sumptuous ripe fruit from the cinsault, grenache and cabernet grapes that make up the blend and it just has the right amount of oak. You really would not know it came from the Lebanon if I had tasted it blind I would have plumped for either the Northern Rhône (Saint-Joseph) or Bordeaux. I will be buying this myself it is a treat.
"The 2017 Hochar Pere et Fils is a single vineyard red made from old vine Cinsault, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon grown at 1,000 metres above sea level. The result is a wine of power, concentration, richness and freshness, full of plums, damsons, herbs and spices." - Jonathan Ray, The Spectator Magazine
