Château Potensac Médoc Cru Bourgeois 2020
Available En Primeur
Affordability continues from the Médoc with the release of Château Potensac, the “unbeatable value” option from the Domaines Delon stable – you may know that name as they also own King of the Super Seconds Château Léoville-Las-Cases, and here we have an equally classic style of claret. This merlot-led Grand Vin has always shown tremendous value in a sub-£20 bottle of authentic Left Bank craft. In a fresh, tightly-textured style, its palate has power and purity with dense tannins and spice on a gratifying finish. This is “proper Médoc” yet its 44% merlot make it much, much more approachable these days than in the past, so while it will happily supervise your cellar visits for a good 10 – 15 years, it will be ready to deliver drinking pleasure in only 5-7 years
"The 2020 Potensac was picked September 14–30 and matured in 20% new oak. It has a clean, pure black currant and blueberry nose, a little more opulent than usual, but well defined and demonstrating a bit more fruité, which it has occasionally lacked in some vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, and quite saline on the entry, with touches of black olive infusing the black fruit. A midweight with a lively, classically fashioned finish, this is a very commendable Potensac that should give 12–15 years of pleasure, but warrants 3–4 years in a cool, damp cellar."
