Classic Cuvée, Charles Palmer Vineyards, East Sussex 2016
We are delighted to be launching the superb Charles Palmer Classic Cuvée 2016 from their family vineyards just outside Winchelsea in East Sussex. Charles Palmer is the English equivalent of single grower champagne with dedication and passion going into the quality of the wine and not into expensive marketing campaigns.
We were introduced to Charles Palmer by one of our best customers, Martin, who writes: "At a blind tasting, the Charles Palmer Classic Cuvée was the clear winner for our daughter's wedding, in competition with a number of well-known champagnes. With five years on the lees, the wine is beautifully balanced, it's delicious!"
The blend here is 30% pinot noir and 70% chardonnay picked by hand and whole bunch pressed before being bottle aged for a minimum of five years before release. This is how it should be done - the result is small fine bubbles with hints of honey, tropical fruit and figs in this rich and delicate blend (with 12.5 % of alcohol). At its peak now with at least a further five years ahead of it. Highly recommended.
