Bourgogne Côte d'Or Pinot Noir, Domaine Michel Magnien 2019
Available En Primeur
A wonderful cocktail of sweet, ripe and juicy black fruit with earthy notes and a seductively soft texture, here is a gorgeous Bourgogne Rouge crafted from fruit with great provenance mostly Morey-Saint-Denis with helpings of Gevrey-Chambertin and Vosne-Romanée and given that even after the Chancellor has taken his cut, this will be nicely under the £20 mark, it is very much a no-brainer in this great vintage.
As I was going through my tasting notes from my October visits to Burgundy, one thing became abundantly clear – Morey-Saint-Denis was THE commune to follow in 2019. Sandwiched between Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey is often overlooked – and we know that usually means there is great value to be found.
I have been tasting at Domaine Michel Magnien for over a decade, and Frédéric’s biodynamic methods in the vineyard and inspired mix of traditional and state-of-the-art winemaking technology yield wines of gorgeously velvety textures, superb purity of aromatics and savoury complexity.
This Bourgogne pinot noir will delight whether you crack the bottle open immediately upon arrival from the winery, or indeed in 3 years’ time when it will have developed the spicy, earthy notes that are subtly lifting the palate right now.
