Falanghina del Sannio, Fremondo 2024
Falanghina is from the rich soils of Campania, the lovely land around Naples. It's an ancient grape, at one time much prized by the Romans when it was known as Falernian wine. These days, it is proving very popular, given the luscious, tropical fruit that enhances its Gavi-esque minerality and crispness. Southern Italy is undoubtedly producing some of the most attractive and interesting whites around, with Falanghina being our favourite.

This was a completely new grape for me, and a revelation. Full-bodied – one of those "mouth-filling" whites. I bought two bottles and as soon as we'd drunk the first, I ordered another six. I can see it becoming a standard in this house.
This wine is a revelation to a boring old Francophile like me. I decided years ago to focus on French wines, but this little beauty has shown me how much I am missing through my narrow focus. A real delight.
