Offer | Château Belle Vue, Cru Bourgeois, Médoc 2016
A deep, garnet colour in the glass hints at the concentration to follow, with rich, dark-fruit aromas and a delicate hint of cigar box and spice.
As the nose suggests, the palate is bold and concentrated; blackcurrant fruit dominates initially, yet it's not over-ripe or sweet, and there's a hint of redcurrant and crushed herb courtesy of the inclusion of petit verdot in the blend. A lovely balance has been achieved between rich fruit, structure and youthful freshness.
The finish continues the theme of ripe, dark fruit, now wrapped in a warming blanket of cedar and spice with a pleasing tannic grip and a delicate, almost savoury edge.
The layers of flavours and aromas unfurled further since my original tasting note some 12 months ago, the extra rest in bottle is already starting to pay dividends. With the structure and concentration still present there is certain to be further evolution in bottle over coming years. As is, decanting an hour or more prior to serving is well rewarded.
A fantastic claret to have in the cellar ready to be called on for any occasion.
