There's such a visual appeal to this wine, with its alluring golden shimmer. Aromas effuse with gentlest of swirls, effusing dried apricot, hints of pineapple, lanolin and rich, woody tones.
The palate is certainly in line with the aromatics; its intensity of flavour is slightly more elegant and restrained than the nose might suggest - a wonderful achievement.
A swathe of ripe apricot and crisp orchard fruit expands across the palate, and with a delicate creamy texture there's a touch of white peach and pineapple in there too. You can really 'feel' the wine on the palate with its roundness and woody warmth and almost honied ripe fruit and buttery character on the finish. And that finish is superb:exotic notes and smokey oak hang perfectly on the palate and comfortably bridge the gap between sips.
2020 was a warm vintage, despite its initial frosts having decimated some vineyards. Which meant that the surviving vines went on to yield beautifully ripened, concentrated fruit. Fruit that is so deliciously reflected in the 2020 release from Maison Jaffelin. It's an absolute gem.
