Mâcon-La Roche-Vineuse, Deux Roches, Famille Collovray & Terrier, 2024
Closer to Pouilly-Fuissé than simple Mâcon
- From one of the finest named villages of the Mâconnais – La Roche-Vineuse, close to Pouilly-Fuissé and the famous rocky outcrops of Fuissé and Solutré.
- More Pouilly-Fuissé than ‘simple’ Mâcon in style – with striking intensity, weight and complexity for the appellation.
- Another superb find from Collovray & Terrier – whose Saint-Véran has become one of our most popular white Burgundies and whose exceptional 1er Cru Pouilly-Fuissé sold out within hours.
Why La Roche Vineuse?
A seriously impressive white Burgundy from one of the Mâconnais’ finest named villages. Made from older Chardonnay vines grown on high-altitude limestone soils close to Pouilly-Fuissé, this has the ripe peach, pear and apricot fruit you’d expect from the southern Mâconnais, but with considerably more weight, intensity and complexity than its modest appellation suggests. Gently creamy and honeyed, with subtle toast and spice from partial barrel fermentation, it remains beautifully fresh, citrus-bright and mineral. In style and stature, this feels remarkably close to Pouilly-Fuissé — and represents exceptional value as a result.
