The Cairossa Estate’s ‘Pergolaia’ cuvée is a fabulous ‘Super Tuscan’ sourced from their biodynamic vineyards situated close to the sea just below Pisa. It’s a region where some of the best wines of Tuscany come from.

Here, the 2014 Pergolaia vintage is a magnificent blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc which, with over eight years of bottle age now behind it, shows a gorgeously mature wine at its peak and also one with a good few years ahead of it. One where luscious fruit, ripe tannins and just the right amount of oak are all in perfect balance.

Pergolaia has a large following with our customers. If you haven't yet tried it, you should

About Cairarossa:
Situated near the Tuscan coast just below Pisa, Caiarossa since 1998 have been organically and biodynamically crafting highly sought-after ‘Super Tuscan’ cuvées of of Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc. Cuvées deeply flavoured and highly expressive of their terrain where viniculture dates as far back as Etruscan times.

Yet Caiarossa is very much a modern winery, whose facilities have been designed with contemporary geodynamic principles in mind, which, with their traditional approach to farming shows them an inspiring combination of Tuscanies new and old.

How does the wine taste? Customer Reviews (1)
Soft, supple tannins with delicious, rich fruit, giving exquisite flavours of fruitcake, truffle, tobacco and leather and all manner of nuance that almost 20 years of ageing will bring. Still full of life, as its vibrant and lengthy finish confirms.

This wine is a delight. Aged beautifully with good brambly nose and summer pudding fruits remain on the tongue as it slips down a treat. However, do not linger too long over the bottle, share it and drink within an hour or so or it fades. Previous vintage

"A 10-year-old 'super-Tuscan', the vineyard here is run organically and biodymanically. The blend is Sangiovese with the Bordeaux trio of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It is aged in older 500-litre barrels for a year before 10 months in concrete and large wooden vats. It's great that FromVineyardsDirect offers these mature wines at reasonable prices - two years ago they had an 18-year-old version of this same cuvée that was superb. This is no slouch either. Aromas are delightfully Bordeaux-like, with some pencil-shaving and graphite over black fruits and a gamy nuance, the Sangiovese perhaps adding a little brighter cherry. In the mouth it is medium-bodied, has good fruit, and tertiary development with a little spice and grainy tannin adding grip and elegant acidity. This is drinking well now. "

Here's a stunning "super-Tuscan" from an estate with pedigree. Full of character, it has a soft medium-bodied texture, with mature notes of cherry, leather and spice."

"I was convinced that the 2003 Pergolaia second wine of Super Tuscan Caiarossa would be over the hill. Its reddish brown hue and slightly dumb nose suggested as much but, gosh, one sip and I was smitten. The Sangiovese/Cabernet Franc/Merlot fruit has more than held up and its gloriously, defiantly rich, soft and mellow with concentrated cherry/strawberry flavours, leather, vanilla and spice."
