Château Saint-Jean, Côtes-du-Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu 2016
Château Saint Jean Plan de Dieu is one of the very best Côtes du Rhône Villages wines from the Meffre Family who also make one of the stars in Gigondas. From the excellent 2016 Rhône vintage this could easily be mistaken for a Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Until now we have always sold this wine ‘en primeur’ and on re-tasting it we all decided that it was so good it deserved a permanent listing and persuaded the Meffre’s to oblige.
Full of rich, vibrant fruit and at only £12.95 this is a great bargain from the Rhône that is now mature and will drink beautifully for the next 4-5 years.
Tasting note: Packed with rich aromatic red fruit, full bodied, great herbal flavours and minerality. It could be a Châteauneuf. Great drinking right now with a good 5 years ahead of it.
