Sancerre, Domaine de la Garenne 2020
Upon lifting the glass you can pick up a very pale tint of gold more so than you might expect, there are elegant aromas of ripe orchard fruit, citrus, gooseberry and tropical notes which are intermingled with a delicate, mineral character.
The palate offers delicate topical fruit, with gooseberry, pear and perhaps even a hint of pineapple, balanced with a lovely citrus 'zing'.
There's a little texture to the palate now which has evolved since we first shipped the 2020 vintage back in April and there's a great length to the finish with a mineral infused finale which is the star of the show.
By itself, it is delicious, and offers a multitude of favours to unravel and discover. It's also, of course, equally at home when served alongside salmon, shellfish and aromatic Asian cuisine. A little goat's cheese goes without saying.
This is a lovely example of 'traditional' Sancerre - of how Sancerre used to be. I continue to love it, and am sure you will too.
