Sauvignon de Touraine, Domaine Bellevue 2024
"The 2024 Domaine Bellevue Sauvignon de Touraine is astonishing value. 100 per cent Sauvignon Blanc like the above its made by Patrick Vauvy at his family domaine on the banks of the Cher. Picked late, it has character, freshness and elegance. Mike liked its gentle gooseberry notes, Ava liked its yuzu zestiness and Bibi, well, just liked it, swerving the spittoon and diving straight in for a second, confirmatory glass."
Jonathan Ray, The Spectator Magazine (Tasted in August 2025)
I have been buying Domaine Bellevue's excellent Sauvignon de Touraine for as long as I can remember. With the prices of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé creeping up and up, Sauvignon de Touraine from a little further west along the Loire is a great-value alternative, giving a flavour of these more famous appellations at a much more pocket-friendly price.
Patrick Vauvy's delicious cuvée seems to get better and better each year, and the just-shipped 2024 effortlessly combines the ripe tropical fruit of this sun-drenched vintage with the pristine, zippy, citrus freshness we always look for in a Loire sauvignon.

This is the fourth successive vintage I have drunk. It is quite delicious, maintaining if not enhancing its reputation as a cut above an "average" Touraine. Despite the price increase over the period, it remains a high-quality, value-for-money wine, good enough to accompany super but simple fish dish in particular.
Most Touraine Sauvignon I find disappointing, but this is an outstanding exception. Light golden colour, joyous fruity nose, good concentration and a dry finish. Could drink on its own, too good for a party wine, excellent with fish and white meats, and a nice change from the go-to Macon whites. (previous vintage)
