Sauvignon de Touraine, Domaine Bellevue 2021
It is now just a few weeks until the festive season begins in earnest. With that in mind, and also the fact that my calendar is now full, its time to stock up on a few essentials. No, not milk, bread and pasta, but good value whites, reds and sparklers. Theres always a need for a solid, crowd-pleasing sauvignon at Christmas and Domaine Bellevues has been consistently pleasing crowds for many years. Its also my choice of white for my very good friends 50th dinner party this weekend.
Thats because Bellevues brilliantly ripe and citrusy sauvignon is a real thirst-quenching delight. More elegant than a Marlborough fruit bomb, and more flavoursome than many a Sancerre, theres really nothing not to savour - especially when it comes to price. And of course, when youre supplying any event (particularly one youre also attending), its crucial that you choose a wine you know everyone there - wine enthusiast or not - will enjoy. This Touraine is just that. So, given the general price increases we see on more mundane essentials these days, at only £10.95, Domaine Bellevue this year is an even more welcomed choice.

Most Touraine Sauvignon I find disappointing, but this is an outstanding exception. Light golden colour, joyous fruity nose, good concentration and a dry finish. Could drink on its own, too good for a party wine, excellent with fish and white meats, and a nice change from the go-to Macon whites. (previous vintage)
