Côtes du Rhône Village Cairanne, Domaine la Vitalis 2014
The Jubain family's Côtes du Rhône-Villages, from one of the two best of the 21 villages is 60% grenache, the grape that expresses its terroir more than almost any other, 20% syrah, 10% carignan, 5% cinsault and 5% mourvedre.
This is an excellent, forward drinking, everyday Côtes du Rhône. Located east of the village of Orange near to the banks of the Rhône with a Mediterranean climate, Cairanne’s terroir is perfect for ripening the Grenache, Mourdevre and Syrah grapes, which make up the majority of the reds. Much of the soil in the area is limestone and alluvial types and a red iron-rich soil over a sandstone bedrock.
Delicious and excellent value. Cotes do Rhone comes up trumps in autumn/winter
Very good value, and warming to drink now that the clocks have gone back and its dark wet and windy outside
Fine Cotes du Rhone, drinking now. Rich, complex but not over bearing. Plum, cherry notes, really well finished. Great value
