2 x bottles 2020 Jean-Louis Chavy, Puligny-Montrachet AOC
Jean-Louis makes effortless, unforced wines showing fine fruit purity and crystal-clear terroir definition. Wines of classic style that will age and develop gracefully. The 2020 counts strongly among them.
Refined, elegant, crisp and fresh on the nose and palate. Purity of fruit. Mineral edge. Chiselled and precise on the palate. A Puligny with wonderful precision and laser-like focus. Drink 2023-2030. 17 pts., Andy Howard MW, jancisrobinson.com
2 x bottles 2020 Jean-Charles Fagot, Puligny-Montrachet AOC
Jean-Charles is part of the fifth generation of Fagots in the area and the third to own vineyard acreage in Puligny and adjacent communes, in which average vine age is 40 years. All wines are vinified traditionally and naturally, using oak foudres for 12-14 month aging periods.
This means an enticing Puligny revealing aromas of citrus oil, white flowers, crisp green apple and almond which lead to a sun-kissed core of yellow fruit that is elegant, bright, racy. And extremely delicious.
2 x bottles 2020 Domaine Gérard Thomas et Filles Le Trézin Puligny-Montrachet AOC
We were taken fully and completely by Filles Thomass 2019 vintage - which made us jump when the chance at the 2020 emerged. Le Trezin is a cooler, hilltop single vineyard in Puligny, the expression of which in this vintage is in a nose of hawthorn blossom, marzipan, hazelnut, flint, lemon grass and green apple. Then, a sensational freshness lifting the appley, almond-scented core of fruit. An exceptional white Burgundy.
