Beaujolais, Domaine Cornillac, Maison Loron 2020
Good Beaujolais, as opposed to the mass produced, inferior quality sold under its name that has done its reputation so much damage, is one of the summers great drinking pleasures. This hand picked Domaine Cornillac, impeccably made by the Loron family who have been making very good wines in the region since 1711, is a delicious example of how very good Beaujolais can be.
A fine gamay can be an absolute delight in the height of summer. This thin-skinned variety, in the right hands, can produce wines laden with red-berry fruit, low levels of grippy tannins and naturally high levels of zippy, fresh acidity and that really are perfect for serving slightly cooler. Any reputable host in the south of France would pop to the château's stone walled cellars and emerge with a deliciously cool bottle of Beaujolais rouge ready to share with his or her guests.

Surprisingly succulent with muted nose of fresh bread. Lovely fruit with raspberry showing through. Easy drinking. Punched above its weight.
