Austrian Reds

About 30% of Austrian wines are red, made from Blaufränkisch (also known as Lemberger, or as Kékfrankos in neighbouring Hungary). Pinot noir and locally bred varieties such as Zweigelt. Four thousand years of winemaking history had to be re-established after the region received a wine scandal in 1985. This destroyed the market for Austrian wine which required Austria to raise standards and reposition itself as a producer of inimitable wines, the best of which we have brought to you today.
