Pinot Gris Reserve Personnelle, Trimbach 2016
A gentle golden glow glistens in the summer sun, and as you swish, delicate aromas of gently ripened stone fruit and orchard fruit emerge from the glass. There's also a feint note of marzipan and almond, it's all very gentle, and seductive.
On the palate again elegance is the name of the game, a hint of sweet apricot, peach and gentle spice. Interestingly there's no oak involved thanks to Trimbach's obsession with preserving the purity of fruit, yet there is a real richness and rounded texture to the palate. This deceives you into thinking that the finish is going to be sweet, yet a crisp streak keeps the finale fresh and pure, and just the slightest touch honied.
This is a beautiful wine which at 5 years of age is starting to show real complexity, but with the richness and concentration of flavour that lurks within, there's no need to rush this to the glass, as stunning as it is now, it has many years ahead of it.
